A Turkish Airlines flight carrying 12 Indian nationals, who were deported from Panama, arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Sunday morning. These individuals were part of a larger group of 299 illegal immigrants expelled by the United States while attempting to enter the country. This marks the first instance of Indian deportees being repatriated from Panama under a new international agreement.
The United States, in collaboration with Panama and Costa Rica, is facilitating the deportation of undocumented migrants from various Asian countries. This arrangement primarily focuses on individuals who have either refused to return home or whose home governments have yet to approve their repatriation. Panama has become a key transit country in this process, assisting in the movement and eventual return of these migrants.
Among the deported Indians, four were from Punjab, three from Haryana, and three from Uttar Pradesh, while the identity of one individual remains unconfirmed. According to sources, four individuals from different districts of Punjab were sent to Amritsar on a connecting flight.
