Handed over the real body of Shiri Bibas to Israel.
As part of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, Hamas handed over four bodies to Israel on Thursday. After this, Israel claimed that Hamas had sent the body of a Gazan woman instead of Shiri Bibas. Benjamin Netanyahu had threatened Hamas to face consequences. After this, Hamas admitted its mistake and handed over the real body of Shiri Bibas to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Now it will be handed over to the Israeli army.
A senior Hamas official has given this information. Earlier, Israeli officials found that the body returned by Hamas on Thursday was not that of Shiri Bibas. The official said that the bodies were misidentified due to the chaos caused by Israeli air strikes. He said, ‘It was an inadvertent mistake because Shiri’s body got mixed up with other bodies due to Israeli attacks on the area where he was.’
Hamas’ armed wing al-Qassam on Thursday sent the remains of four Israeli hostages, presumably Shiri Bibas, her two sons Ariel and Kfir, as well as retired journalist Oded Lifshitz, back to Israel via the ICRC. The four hostages were kidnapped in Gaza during Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
However, later on Thursday, after forensic analysis of four bodies, Israeli officials announced that the body initially believed to be that of Shiri Bibas did not match her DNA. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened on Friday that Israel would take revenge on Hamas for its failure to hand over Shiri’s body. He said, ‘We will make sure that Hamas pays the full price for this brutal and evil violation of the agreement.’
