A shooting occurred at UPMC Memorial Hospital in central Pennsylvania, with reports indicating that the gunman was killed during an encounter with police. Some individuals are reported to have been injured in the incident.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro stated, “I’ve been briefed on the tragic shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York County, and I am on my way to the scene. The hospital is now secure, and police officers are on the ground responding, alongside our local and federal partners.”
He added, “Follow the direction of local authorities and stay clear of the area. We will share more updates as they become available.”
A viral video circulating on social media shows a police car approaching the hospital as people run out of the building. After shots were fired, the police cordoned off the area.
According to reports, two law enforcement officers and a nurse were injured in the shooting.
The New York Times, quoting an official from the hospital, said, “A gunman was at the hospital on Saturday and shots were fired.” “The hospital is now secure, and the threat has been neutralized,” the hospital said.
UPMC Memorial officials in York confirmed that no patients were injured and that the gunman is deceased. Law enforcement agencies are currently managing the situation on-site, according to reports from the Associated Press.
