Ukraine and America reach agreement on mineral deal, may be signed this week

Ukraine and the US have agreed on the terms of a mineral agreement that could be signed this week, officials from both countries said on Tuesday. Under the agreement, the US will jointly develop Ukraine’s mineral resources and the proceeds from it will go to a new joint fund between Ukraine and the US, a Ukrainian official told news agency AFP.

According to the official, the draft agreement mentions security, but it does not clearly state US commitments. Ukraine has been demanding this for a long time.

“There is a general clause that says the US will invest in a stable and prosperous sovereign Ukraine. It will work for lasting peace. The US will support efforts to ensure security. Now the government is working on the details,” the official said.

He also said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could sign the agreement on Friday during his visit to Washington.

US President Donald Trump confirmed that Zelensky is coming to Washington and a very big deal could be reached. He said, “I am listening. I am hearing he is coming on Friday. He wants to sign it with me. It is a big deal. A very big deal.”
