US President Donald Trump has faced criticism after he shared an AI-generated video on social media that shows war-torn Gaza transformed into a city where the American leader is seen holidaying with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump shared the video on his social media handles including Truthout and Instagram. The video has been viewed by millions of people. The video begins with a montage of a devastated Gaza in 2025 and asks the question ‘What happens next’?
It then features a song which translates to, “Donald Trump will set you free… No more tunnels, no more fear. Trump’s Gaza is finally here. Trump Gaza is shining. Deal is done, Trump Gaza number one.” The video features AI-powered images of SpaceX CEO Elon Musk enjoying food in the new city.
It shows belly dancers, party scenes, luxury cars racing through the streets of Gaza and young children trying to catch dollars falling from the sky, as well as shirtless Trump and Netanyahu sitting on chairs on the beach. A nightclub is also visible.
The post has received sharp reactions and criticism from people. Many users commented that they voted for Trump to take care of the US economy, not to do something like this.
One social media user said, “I voted for Donald Trump. I didn’t vote for this. Neither did anyone else I know. The lack of humanity, decency, respect has made me regret my vote.” Another user said, “I can’t believe this is the US President’s account. Where is the respect and seriousness?”
Earlier this month, in a surprise announcement at a joint press conference with Netanyahu at the White House, Trump said the US would “occupy the Gaza Strip”, “own it” and carry out economic development there that would create a massive number of jobs and housing.
