Zelenskyy Open to Talks with Trump as European Leaders Gather in UK for Defense Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is open to resuming discussions with the United States, French President Emmanuel Macron stated after speaking with him. This follows a tense exchange between Zelenskyy and former U.S. President Donald Trump. Macron indicated that any dialogue could include an agreement granting the U.S. access to Ukraine’s natural resource revenues, though details remain unclear. The White House has yet to comment.

Zelenskyy has arrived in London ahead of a high-level defense summit where European leaders, along with officials from Canada and Turkey, will discuss the ongoing conflict with Russia. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer assured Zelenskyy of Britain’s unwavering support and highlighted a £2.26 billion ($2.84 billion) loan from the UK to bolster Ukraine’s domestic weapons production.

During his visit, Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet King Charles at Sandringham, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity. Meanwhile, Turkey’s foreign minister is expected to reiterate Ankara’s offer to mediate peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

In the latest developments on the battlefield, Russian strikes in Ukraine have resulted in one death and 19 injuries, with attacks in the southern Odesa region damaging port infrastructure and a European-owned vessel. Additionally, Moscow claims to have seized two more villages in the Donetsk region.

The UN’s nuclear watchdog has sent a monitoring team to the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant after weeks of delays. The inspectors traveled through Russian-held territory under military escort, according to Moscow, though independent verification is unavailable.

Meanwhile, Russia reported intercepting three Ukrainian drones targeting a gas pipeline supplying Europe via Turkey—the second such attack this year. Kyiv has not commented on the claim.

In Berlin, hundreds marched in solidarity with Ukraine, led by Yulia Navalnaya, widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Protesters called for an end to the war and criticized both Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Trump.
