Sweden to Deploy Gripen Fighter Jets for NATO Mission in Poland

Sweden has announced plans to send up to eight Gripen fighter jets to participate in a NATO mission policing Poland’s airspace, which borders Ukraine.

Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard stated that the deployment is part of an operation aimed at securing the logistics hub facilitating military aid to Ukraine. “By participating in the operation, we are helping to get aid to Ukraine,” Stenergard said at a news conference, confirming that Stockholm will send “up to eight Jas Gripen aircraft with associated personnel.”

The announcement came just hours before the start of an extraordinary EU summit on Ukraine in Brussels.

Poland’s Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed gratitude on X, calling Sweden’s decision “a demonstration of solidarity and unity in the face of threats to our security.”
