On Friday, a roadside bomb in the Harnai district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province detonated near a vehicle carrying coal miners, killing between 9 and 11 people and wounding at least six others. The blast, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED)234, struck a mini truck in the Shahrag area.
Local government representative Wali Kakar confirmed that law enforcement transported the dead and injured to a nearby medical facility and that investigations are ongoing. Authorities noted that the majority of the victims came from the northwestern Swat Valley and surrounding regions.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and provincial officials have condemned the attack, ordering local authorities and police to arrest those responsible. While no group has claimed responsibility, suspicion is likely to fall on the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA).
Balochistan, a mineral-rich region, has been the site of a prolonged insurgency, with several separatist groups staging attacks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow and affirmed that efforts to eradicate terrorism are actively underway.
