After imposing a fine on Google in October last year that was greater than the world’s GDP, Russia has again imposed a hefty fine on the company. Russia’s TASS news agency reported on Monday that a Russian court has fined Google about 3.8 million rubles, or $41,530, for hosting objectionable content on YouTube. The news agency reported that some of the videos on YouTube were showing Russian soldiers surrendering.

There has been no response from Google on this matter yet. Let us tell you that Russia has been continuously taking action against internet companies for the last few years. Russia has given strict instructions to the companies to remove the content that it considers illegal. After the war started in Ukraine, these cases have increased further. Along with this, some critics have also accused Putin’s officials of deliberately reducing the download speed of YouTube.

Earlier in December, Putin had made a major allegation against Google that the US uses Google to gain political advantage. In October 2024, Russia imposed a fine of around $2,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 on Google. Let us tell you that this amount is more than the world GDP i.e. 110 trillion dollars estimated by the International Monetary Fund. Russia took this step accusing the company of banning Russian channels and content.
