The Champions Trophy 2025 is going to start tomorrow i.e. Wednesday, February 19. The first match is to be played between hosts Pakistan and New Zealand, but just before this match, the New Zealand team has suffered a major setback. Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury. Kyle Jamieson will be part of the team in his place. Even before this, the New Zealand team has struggled with injury problems. One change has already been made.
The New Zealand Cricket Board has informed that Ferguson felt some pain in his right leg after bowling in an unofficial practice match against Afghanistan in Karachi on Sunday and initial medical assessment indicated that he would not be fit enough to participate in the entire tournament. Lockie Ferguson has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a leg injury. Given the close start of the Champions Trophy and the short nature of the tournament, it was decided to send Ferguson home to begin rehab.
Fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will replace Ferguson in the team and will leave for Pakistan this evening. In such a situation, he will not be available for the match to be held on February 19 against Pakistan. Jamieson made a comeback to domestic cricket for Canterbury Kings in the Super Smash in December. He was away from cricket for 10 months for the rehab of stress fracture in his back. Recently, during the tri-series played by New Zealand with Pakistan and South Africa, Ben Sears was also injured and was out of the tournament. In his place, Jacob Duffy was included in the Champions Trophy team. Apart from this, Rachin Ravindra, who was injured in the ODI tri-series, is also not fully fit yet.
The New Zealand team is as follows:
Mitchell Santner (captain), Kane Williamson, Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Daryl Mitchell, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra, Nathan Smith, Will Young, Jacob Duffy and Kyle Jamieson
