Donald Trump is trapped in Russia’s trap ?

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump. He said Trump has fallen into a Russian “web of propaganda”. Zelensky said that efforts are being made to remove him during the war which will not succeed. Zelensky’s response came when Trump claimed that the Ukrainian President’s popularity is declining rapidly. After the meeting between the US and Russia in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh on Tuesday, Trump described Zelensky’s approval rating as just 4 percent, while the latest surveys have recorded his popularity at 57 percent.

Allegations of Russian-backed disinformation
The Ukrainian President rejected Trump’s claims and said that it is part of Russian propaganda. Speaking to Ukrainian TV, Zelensky said, “If someone tries to remove me now, it will not be possible. The talk about my approval rating of 4 percent is a false rumor. Trump has fallen into this Russian propaganda trap.” He further said that he wants Trump and his team to know the truth about Ukraine. He also made it clear that no one in Ukraine trusts Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Resentment over Russia-US meeting
Meanwhile, talks were held between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Riyadh on Tuesday, in which an agreement was reached to improve the deteriorating relations between the two countries and work towards ending the Ukraine war. Zelensky criticized this meeting and said that America has helped Putin through this. Russia clearly said in the meeting that it will not accept the presence of any NATO troops in Ukraine. Russia also made it clear that it will not accept Ukraine’s NATO membership under any circumstances.

Ukraine’s outrage and Zelensky’s response
After the results of the meeting were revealed, Zelensky immediately postponed his visit to Saudi Arabia. He said that he did not want to give “legitimacy” to this meeting. He said, “We want that no one takes decisions behind our back. No decision on how to end the Ukraine war can be taken without Ukraine.” He also demanded that Turkey and European countries be included in this dialogue.
