Trump Fires Top Military Officer, Read Details

Washington: President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he is replacing General Charles “CQ” Brown, the top U.S. military officer, less than two years into his four-year term as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Trump expressed his gratitude for Brown’s “over 40 years of service to our country” in a post on his Truth Social platform. He also shared that he was “honored to announce” the nomination of Air Force Lieutenant General Dan “Razin” Caine as the new Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“General Caine is an accomplished pilot, national security expert, successful entrepreneur, and a ‘warfighter’ with significant interagency and special operations experience,” Trump wrote.

According to a U.S. Air Force biography, Caine has held several key positions, including associate director for military affairs at the CIA. He has also served in various operational and staff roles, logging more than 150 combat hours as an F-16 pilot, with over 2,800 total flight hours in the aircraft.

General Brown, the second Black officer to serve as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff after Colin Powell (1989-1993), was commissioned as an officer in 1984. An experienced pilot, Brown has accumulated more than 3,000 flight hours, including 130 in combat. He has commanded a fighter squadron, two fighter wings, and U.S. air forces under the Central Command and Indo-Pacific Command. Brown had served as Joint Chiefs chairman since October 2023.
