Former Australian radio broadcaster Alan Jones has been hit with an additional assault charge, increasing the number of his alleged victims to 11, according to New South Wales police.
Authorities confirmed on Friday that the 83-year-old former Sydney radio host is now facing an extra count of assault with an act of indecency. Jones is set to appear in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on 11 March to respond to the latest allegation.
This charge adds to a growing list of accusations against Jones. In November, he was charged with 26 historical sexual assault offences related to nine individuals over nearly two decades. A month later, police laid another eight indecent assault charges connected to a 10th alleged victim.
According to investigators, the offences reportedly took place between 2001 and 2019, with the youngest alleged victim being 17 at the time.
Jones made his first court appearance in December, where it was confirmed he would face a jury trial. His lawyer stated that he intends to plead not guilty to all 34 charges.
Following the latest charge, NSW police confirmed that detectives from the Child Abuse Squad had expanded their investigation, bringing the total number of offences Jones faces to 35.
The investigation, dubbed Strike Force Bonnefin, was launched in March last year to examine multiple reports of alleged indecent assault and sexual misconduct involving Jones.
In November, after the first wave of charges was announced, NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb stated that authorities expected more people to come forward with allegations.
