Bomb Threat Forces American Airlines Flight to Divert to Rome Mid-Route

An American Airlines flight traveling from New York to Delhi was unexpectedly diverted to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport following a bomb threat while flying over the Caspian Sea. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, carrying 199 passengers, was escorted by military fighter jets for safety.

Airport spokesperson Francesco Garibaldi confirmed the aircraft’s diversion but did not provide an official reason. However, reports suggest that security concerns led to the emergency landing.

Upon landing in Rome at 5:22 pm CET, passengers and crew were asked to disembark while authorities conducted thorough security checks. Despite the emergency situation, airport operations remained unaffected.

Rome was chosen as the emergency landing site over other major international hubs such as Istanbul and Dubai. Further investigations into the threat are underway.
