China’s ‘Puppy Mountain’ Goes Viral After Designer’s Stunning Photo

Yangtze River Cliff Gains Fame for Resembling a Dog

A scenic cliff along China’s Yangtze River has captured the imagination of millions after a viral photo highlighted its uncanny resemblance to a dog. Dubbed “Puppy Mountain,” the rock formation has become an overnight sensation on Chinese social media.

Discovery of ‘Puppy Mountain’

Shanghai-based designer Guo Qingshan first noticed the unique shape while reviewing photos from a January hike in his hometown of Yichang, Hubei province. The formation appears to resemble a dog resting its head near the water’s edge.

“It was so magical and cute,” Guo said. “The puppy looks like it’s drinking water or quietly watching over the Yangtze River.”

His post on Xiaohongshu (RedNote) quickly gained 120,000 likes in just 10 days, while the hashtag #xiaogoushan (meaning “Puppy Mountain”) attracted millions of views on Weibo.

Tourists and Dog Owners Flock to the Site

Inspired by the viral image, visitors have traveled to Yichang’s Zigui county to see Puppy Mountain for themselves. Many dog owners even bring their pets to take matching photos.

Yang Yang, who lives nearby, made the trip with her two-year-old poodle. “I always travel with my dog, so this was the perfect place to visit,” she said.

Some longtime residents shared old photos of the mountain, realizing only now how much it resembles a dog. Others noted subtle changes in the formation’s appearance over the years.

Social Media Buzz and Local Reactions

Netizens have embraced the discovery, with one user joking, “Just stroke the puppy’s head and everything will be OK.” Another commented, “We all need the eyes to see beauty in this world.”

With increasing interest in the site, Puppy Mountain is now drawing both tourists and nature lovers eager to see the adorable rock formation that has become China’s latest viral sensation.
