Controversy Erupts as Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Calls Mohammed Shami a “Criminal” for Not Observing Roza During Ramzan

Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has sparked controversy after Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, criticized him for not observing ‘Roza’ (fasting) during Ramzan. The religious leader referred to Shami as “a criminal” for not keeping the fast, emphasizing that it is a compulsory duty in Islam.Speaking to ANI, Maulana Shahabuddin said, “By not keeping ‘Roza,’ Mohammed Shami has committed a crime. He should not do this. In the eyes of Shariat, he is a criminal and will have to answer to God.” He further added that anyone who is healthy but does not observe fasting during Ramzan is committing a significant wrong.Referring to Shami’s actions during a match, Maulana Shahabuddin remarked, “One of the compulsory duties is ‘Roza’. If any healthy man or woman doesn’t observe ‘Roza,’ they will be a big criminal. A famous cricket personality of India, Mohammed Shami, had water or some other beverage during a match. People were watching him, and if he is playing, it means he is healthy. In such a condition, he did not observe ‘Roza’ and even had water, which sends a wrong message among people.”
