San José – Following the lead of Panama and Guatemala, Costa Rica has announced its willingness to temporarily receive migrants deported from the United States who are nationals of other countries. The Costa Rican presidential office confirmed in a statement on Monday that the first group—200 migrants from Central Asia and India—will arrive on Wednesday aboard a commercial flight from the U.S.
Upon arrival, the migrants will be transported to a Temporary Migrant Care Center near Costa Rica’s border with Panama. From there, arrangements will be made for their return to their respective home countries.
The Costa Rican government emphasized that the entire process will be fully funded by the U.S. government and conducted under the supervision of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
