Father Struggles to Get Visa to Be with His Daughter in the US
The family of Neelam Shinde, a 35-year-old Indian student in the US, has made an urgent appeal for a visa to be by her side after a severe accident left her in a coma. Neelam, who has been in the US for four years and is in her final year of studies, met with a tragic accident in California on February 14.
Her father, Tanaji Shinde, residing in Maharashtra’s Satara, has been struggling to secure a visa to travel to the US since receiving the news on February 16. However, the next available visa appointment is reportedly only next year, making the situation even more distressing for the family.
Accident and Medical Condition
According to Sanjay Kadam, Neelam’s uncle, she suffered multiple fractures in her hands and legs, along with severe head and chest injuries after being hit by a four-wheeler.
“The hospital contacted us for permission to operate on her brain. She is in a coma right now, and we need to be there with her,” Kadam told the media. The hospital has been providing regular health updates, but her family’s presence is crucial at this critical stage.
Political Leaders Appeal for Visa Assistance
NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule has stepped in to assist the family, urging External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to intervene and help expedite Neelam’s father’s visa.
“This is an alarming issue, and we must come together to resolve it. I have been in touch with the family and assured them that the matter will be addressed,” Sule stated.
She also praised the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) for its support in such cases, stating that she has also reached out to the US Embassy in Mumbai for assistance.
With Neelam’s critical condition and her family’s desperate need to be by her side, urgent action is required to facilitate their visa approval.
