Indian-Origin Woman Racially Abused On UK Train By Drunk Passenger (Video)

A 26-year-old Indian-origin woman, Gabrielle Forsyth, was racially abused by a reportedly drunk man on a train from London to Manchester. The incident occurred after Forsyth spoke with a fellow passenger about her work with a charity that supports immigrants. A man, who was drinking, overheard the conversation and began a racist tirade.
The man shouted at Forsyth, boasting about England’s historical conquests and calling fellow train passengers “immigrants”. He said, “You’re in England, you are claiming something. You would not be in England if you weren’t claiming something. English people conquered the world and gave it back to you. We conquered India, we didn’t want it, we gave it back to you”. He also added, “India belongs to England and we gave it back. We did not want it”.
Forsyth recorded the incident, but after sharing the video online, she received a lot of online abuse. She reported the incident to the British Transport Police (BTP). Forsyth stated, “Being Indian, being the daughter of an immigrant, being in touch with my history and heritage is a blessing and a gift and I am grateful every day to have the ability to stand up for myself and people of colour”.
