A New Zealand court has sentenced former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassin Satwant Singh’s nephew Baltej Singh and another Himmatjit Kahlon to 22 years in prison in the biggest drug case there. Police operation ‘Lavender’ has ended. This Operation Lavender was started after the death of a man named Eden Sangla. The biggest drug recovery in New Zealand’s history happened in this operation. The names of Indian Punjabi youths came up in the drug consignment. Baltej Singh and his partner Himmatjit Kahlon were partners in a store.
During the investigation, 747 kg of methamphetamine was seized from them, which was the biggest drug seizure in New Zealand. According to sources, 21-year-old Aiden used to work at their store. The accused used to get beer supplied from abroad. Sometimes Aiden also used to consume beer. According to sources, Aiden’s health suddenly deteriorated after drinking beer on March 7, 2023.
The family took him to the hospital, where he died. The family suspected that someone else was responsible for his death. After this, a complaint was lodged with the police. The police started the investigation in a confidential manner. After this, the store’s warehouse was raided. The police found a large number of beer cans in the raid. Investigation revealed that methamphetamine was mixed in the beer. Aiden died due to this reason. After this, Auckland City Police started Operation Lavender. Now 42-year-old Himmatjit Singh Kahlon has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for murder and drugs. Baltej Singh has been sentenced to 22 years. After a 2-hour hearing of the case in Auckland High Court, a 12-person jury found Kahlon guilty of murder and possession of a drug called meth. Sangla’s family cried when the verdict was announced, while the accused Kahlon stood silently in the dock.
