Palestinian prisoners were also turned but in a different fashion

As part of the Gaza ceasefire deal, Israel released 369 Palestinian prisoners on Saturday, who were then welcomed by a cheering crowd in Ramallah, West Bank. Released prisoners, donning traditional keffiyeh scarves, were greeted by relatives and supporters waving the Fatah party flags. Unlike previous releases, the prisoners wore jackets, although images showed them in sweatshirts with the slogan “We will not forget and we will not forgive,” along with the Star of David and the Israeli Prison Service logo.

The release was part of an exchange for three Israelis held hostage in Gaza since the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas. Israel had warned Hamas that failure to release three living hostages would result in a resumption of the war2. Among the prisoners released, 36 were serving life sentences for deadly attacks. Some notable prisoners included Ahmed Barghouti, a close associate of Marwan Barghouti who was sentenced to life imprisonment for sending suicide bombers, and Fatah terrorist Mazen al-Qadi, who aided in a 2002 terror attack.
