Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino on Wednesday strongly refuted claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump that Washington was in the process of reclaiming the Panama Canal.
“Once again, President Trump is lying. The Panama Canal is not in the process of recovery,” Mulino wrote on X.
He further condemned the statement, calling it an “affront to the truth and to our dignity as a nation.”
Mulino’s remarks came after Trump publicly asserted that his administration had begun efforts to take back control of the strategically vital waterway.
