Putin will speak directly with Zelensky if necessary: Russia

After US President Donald Trump came to power, the Russia-Ukraine war that has been going on for the past three years seems to be taking a new turn. Russia has made a major statement on this war on Tuesday.

The Kremlin said on Tuesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to talk to Volodymyr Zelensky if necessary. However, during this time Russia has also raised questions about Zelensky’s legitimacy as the president of Ukraine. Russia has also said that there can be no solution to the Ukraine war without discussing the broader issue of security. On Tuesday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media: “Putin himself said that he is ready to talk to Zelensky if necessary.”

He added, “However, the legal basis of the agreements needs to be discussed because the fact is that Zelensky’s legitimacy can be questioned.” Let us tell you that Zelensky’s five-year term as president ended last year. However, according to Ukrainian law, presidential elections are not required to be held until martial law is imposed. Russia has questioned this on several occasions and has even said that Russia does not consider him a legitimate president.

Meanwhile, Russia also said that Russia will not prevent Ukraine from joining the European Union. However, he reiterated that he will continue to oppose Ukraine becoming part of NATO. Peskov said, “Russia has no objection to Ukraine joining the European Union. This is the sovereign right of any country. No one can dictate to another country and we are not planning to do so.” He added, “But when it comes to security issues and military alliances, it is completely different. We have a different approach here that is at the forefront.”Earlier, US and Russian officials held a high-profile meeting in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. The meeting aimed to start talks to end the ongoing war in Ukraine and improve relations. The meeting, held at Riyadh’s Diriyah Palace, is another important step towards reversing the Trump administration’s US policy of isolating Russia.

It is also aimed at paving the way for talks between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, Ukrainian officials did not attend the meeting. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Monday that if Ukraine does not participate in any discussions, he will not accept any outcome of the talks.
