Russia Rejects Ceasefire in Ukraine, Putin Emphasizes Long-Term Security
Russia announced on Thursday that it would not agree to a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine, dismissing proposals for a one-month halt in fighting or a pause in aerial and naval attacks. The suggestions were put forward by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron.
President Vladimir Putin stated that any peace agreement must prioritize Russia’s long-term security and development. “We must choose for ourselves a peace option that will suit us and ensure peace for our country in the long term,” Putin said while speaking to women who lost relatives in the war.
He further emphasized, “We don’t need anything that belongs to others, but we won’t give up our own.”
When asked by the mother of a fallen soldier if Russia would retreat, Putin firmly responded that there were no such plans.
