SGPC president in Punjab suddenly resigns

Amritsar: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, the head of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, has resigned from his post. Dhami has said that the reason behind this is the post of Giani Raghbir Singh, the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Raghbir Singh had shared the post on February 13 after Harpreet Singh was removed from the post of Jathedar of Sri Damdama Sahib.

Before resigning, President Dhami also read the lines of that post. He said that the post clearly shows that Giani Raghbir Singh is telling him the reason for removing Harpreet Singh from the post.
About a week ago, Giani Harpreet Singh was removed by the SGPC.
Dhami said that there was a discussion for one and a half hours to remove Harpreet.

Dhami said that on the day the decision to remove Giani Harpreet Singh was taken, 14 executive members were together and there was a discussion for one and a half hours. Everyone was given one and a half hours to speak. So that no one’s thoughts remain, but the head remains there. Therefore, on moral grounds, I resign from this post. Guru Sahib please bless me.

He said that the Shiromani Committee is the administrative body of the Sikhs and Sri Akal Takht Sahib is the highest Takht of the Sikhs. The Shiromani Akali Dal is also an organization of this Takht.

1. The reason for removing Harpreet Singh from his post is not justified.
   I am looking at the recent incidents that are happening seriously from every angle. I am very saddened by these circumstances. The reason and method for removing Jathedar Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh from his post of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib is not justified at all.
2. An atmosphere was created in a planned manner.
   After the decisions taken from Sri Akal Takht Sahib on 2 December 2024 according to Panthic sentiments and traditions, it seemed that an atmosphere was being created in a planned manner against the Singh Sahibs. A media trial was conducted against Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh by misinterpreting an 18-year-old family matter. In this regard, as the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, I had also said at the time when the SGPC constituted the inquiry committee that this was not right. If there is a need to investigate any kind of allegations against the Jathedar of any Takht Sahib, then only Sri Akal Takht Sahib can do it.
3. It is unfortunate that Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh was removed from his post, a step that harmed the existence of the Takht Sahibs
   . Insulting the Jathedars and removing them from their jobs in this way is a very condemnable act. Once again, I want to say from my heart that the removal of Singh Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh from service is very condemnable and unfortunate, which is also a step that harms the independence and existence of the Takht Sahibs.
