Six Palestinian Infants Die from Hypothermia Amid Harsh Winter in Gaza

At least six Palestinian infants have reportedly died from hypothermia as a severe cold spell grips the Gaza Strip, medical officials confirmed.

Dr. Saeed Salah, medical director of the Friends of the Patient Charitable Hospital, stated on Tuesday that three newborns, aged between one and two days, died shortly after being admitted.

Additionally, a 60-day-old baby froze to death inside a tent in al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. Medical sources later reported the deaths of two more children due to extreme cold, bringing the total fatalities to six.

Salah also noted that the hospital’s nursery department has recently treated eight cases of severe hypothermia, all requiring intensive care.

According to the United Nations, at least eight newborns died of hypothermia in Gaza in December, while 74 children have perished due to the brutal winter conditions.

The latest deaths occur as Israel continues to block the entry of temporary housing into Gaza, despite prior agreements under the ceasefire deal.
