Effective June 1, 2025, British Columbia’s general minimum wage will increase by 2.6% from $17.40 to $17.85 per hour. This increase is intended to help the province’s lowest-paid workers keep up with the rising cost of living.
The wage increase is mandated by changes made in Spring 2024 to the Employment Standards Act, requiring annual wage increases based on economic conditions. In addition to the general minimum wage, the same 2.6% increase will apply to minimum wage rates for residential caretakers, live-in home-support workers, camp leaders, and app-based ride-hailing and delivery services workers on June 1, 2025. Furthermore, minimum piece rates for 15 hand-harvested crops will also increase by 2.6% on December 31, 2025.
According to the Minister of Labour, Jennifer Whiteside, the government took action to ensure the minimum wage keeps up with the cost of living so that workers do not fall further behind. The government states that the changes align with their priorities to reduce poverty, make life more affordable, and build a strong and fair economy for B.C.
