Trump announces extradition of Tahawwur Rana to India

US President Donald Trump has made a major announcement, approving the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, the mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, to India. He said that Rana will have to face justice in India.

Trump made the announcement at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House. Trump said his government has approved the extradition of Rana, one of the world’s most wanted men, and he is now returning to India, where he will face justice.

It is worth mentioning that India has been seeking Rana’s extradition for a long time. Rana, who is a Canadian citizen and of Pakistani origin, is currently lodged in a Los Angeles jail. He is accused of helping David Coleman Headley and other terrorists in Pakistan in carrying out the attack by the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist group.

On this occasion, Trump also said that India and the US will together confront the threat of radical Islamic terrorism around the world. Prime Minister Modi thanked Trump and spoke of India’s cooperation in fighting terrorism. He said that strong action is needed against cross-border terrorism and the decision to extradite Rana will help our courts to bring him to justice.

It is worth mentioning that 164 people were killed in the attacks in Mumbai on 26 November 2008. Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists carried out attacks at several locations in Mumbai, including Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Taj Hotel, and Oberoi Trident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Trump and spoke of India’s cooperation in fighting terrorism. Modi said, “We will cooperate in fighting terrorism. Strong action is needed against cross-border terrorism. Thanking President Trump, I say that the decision to extradite 26/11 terrorist Tahawar Rana has been taken. Our courts will provide him justice.”
