On Sunday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order officially renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
Additionally, he declared February 9 as “Gulf of America Day.” This move follows the signing of Executive Order 14172 on January 20, 2025, which had already changed the name of the Gulf.
The new executive order, called “Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness,” directs the U.S. Secretary of the Interior to finalize the name change within the next 30 days.
