Two young boys, including the son of Blaxland independent candidate Ahmed Ouf, were hospitalized after an alleged hit-and-run in Auburn, western Sydney, on Friday afternoon.
Driver Fled Scene After Collision
The incident occurred at 4:03 PM, when a white Toyota Hilux without number plates allegedly ran through a roundabout and struck the boys, who were riding a motorized scooter. The driver fled the scene, leaving them with serious injuries, according to Ouf.
NSW Police confirmed the incident, stating that the boys, both aged 11, were riding along Gordon Road when they entered the roundabout at Union Street.
Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact Auburn Police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
Boys Suffer Minor Injuries, Released from Hospital
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson reported that the children were hit at low speed, sustaining minor injuries. They were transported to Westmead Children’s Hospital for assessment.
Later that night, Ouf provided an update, confirming both boys had been discharged. His son suffered a fractured foot, scrapes, and bruises, but is expected to recover.
“I am very grateful for the outpouring of community support. Your thoughts, prayers, and concern have meant a lot to my family,” Ouf said.
Political Context
Ahmed Ouf, a pharmacist and Egyptian immigrant, is running as an independent candidate in the federal seat of Blaxland, traditionally a safe Labor stronghold held by Education Minister Jason Clare.
His campaign has been supported by The Muslim Vote, a grassroots movement fueled by community frustration over Labor’s stance on the war in Gaza.
“There are people from different faiths and backgrounds in Blaxland, and Gaza has been one of the key issues raised in the last year,” Ouf told ABC Radio National in October.
