Washington:
US President Donald Trump has defended the large-scale deportation of undocumented immigrants, stating that his administration is “draining the swamp” by sending back fraudsters, cheaters, globalists, and deep-state bureaucrats.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) near Washington on Saturday, Trump reaffirmed his administration’s strong stance on illegal immigration. “The fraudsters, liars, cheaters, globalists, and deep-state bureaucrats are being sent packing,” he declared. “Illegal alien criminals are being sent home. We’re draining the swamp and restoring government by the people,” he added.
Trump has made mass deportations a key component of his immigration policy since returning to office. According to the Pew Research Center, as of 2022, unauthorized immigrants made up 3.3% of the total US population and 23% of the foreign-born population.
The Department of Homeland Security announced on X (formerly Twitter) that, as of February 3, its agents had arrested 8,768 people as part of the intensified crackdown on illegal immigration. So far, three groups totaling 332 Indians have been deported back to India.
Additionally, a group of Indian deportees recently arrived in Panama after President Jose Raul Mulino agreed to make his country a “bridge” nation for facilitating deportations.
