Zelensky’s attitude softened, ready to work with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday he is ready to sign a mineral and security deal with the United States and is ready to work under the strong leadership of President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy acknowledged his meeting with Trump at the White House on Friday was disappointing, but he again expressed his commitment to Ukrainian peace and thanked Trump for delivering Javelin missiles to Ukraine. “Now is the right time, we are ready to put things right,” he said.

In a statement, Zelensky said, “I want to reiterate my commitment to peace in Ukraine. None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to sit down at the negotiating table soon to bring lasting peace closer.” He also said, “We are ready to work quickly to end the war and the first steps may include the release of prisoners and a ceasefire to stop air strikes. If Russia does the same, we can call it a truce. We want to work quickly for the next steps and will work with the United States to agree on a strong final agreement.”

Expressing gratitude to Trump for Javelin missile
, Zelensky praised America’s support and said, “We really appreciate how much the United States has contributed to maintaining Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence. We cannot forget the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Javelin missiles to Ukraine. We are grateful for this.”

“Our meeting on Friday at the White House did not go the way it should have. It’s sad that this happened. Now is the time to put things right. We want future cooperation and dialogue to be constructive,” Zelensky said.

Zelensky ready to sign deal
Commenting on the minerals and security agreement, Zelensky said, “Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time and in any convenient format. We consider this agreement as a step towards greater security and solid security guarantees and I sincerely hope that it will work effectively.”
Relations deteriorated after the Oval meeting.
The plan to sign this agreement was halted after the meeting between Trump and Zelensky at the White House last Friday. In this meeting, Trump and Vice President JD Vance told Zelensky that he should thank for American support instead of demanding additional help from the US. Trump also said, “You are putting the Third World War at stake.”

Preparations to move forward on mineral deal
Meanwhile, US officials have spoken to officials in Kiev to sign a mineral agreement, although it is not yet clear what form the agreement will take. It is also not clear whether there has been any change in the agreement. Let us tell you that this agreement did not provide any explicit security guarantee to Ukraine. It gave the US access to income from Ukraine’s natural resources. It also envisaged that the Ukrainian government would contribute 50 percent of the earnings from any state-owned natural resources in the future to the US-Ukraine Joint Reconstruction Investment Fund.
